The Paleontological Research Institution’s Type and Figured Collection is taxonomically and stratigraphically diverse. It is strongest in Cenozoic invertebrates (especially mollusks and foraminifera) of the Western Hemisphere. PRI's Type and Figured Collection consists currently of approximately 15,000 specimens and is constantly growing; a relatively complete catalog has been published for these published types.

This number of specimens places PRI’s Type and Figured Collection among the ten largest in the U.S. invertebrate paleontology collections. The Type and Figured Collection has recently been curated and computerized with funds from NSF. Our database is now available to the public for searches at www.pricollectionsdatabase.org.
