(ITHACA, NY– September 20, 2023) From the tiniest microbes to the mighty dinosaurs, for over 4 billion years, the Earth has teemed with life. In just 20 short years, the Museum of the Earth has become a leading destination for those who wish to explore the Earth's natural history.

We invite you to join us in celebrating 20 years of the Museum of the Earth, which opened to the public in September 2003. Come explore the exhibits and other resources of what has been called “pound-for-pound the best natural history museum in America” – a storehouse of treasures from our planet and its life and learn about the amazing stories that it has to tell.

“The Museum of the Earth offers a glimpse into one of the nation’s largest fossil collections,” says Warren Allmon, Director of the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI), which is the Museum’s parent organization. “The PRI collection dates back to the first half of the nineteenth century and the founding of Cornell University, and the Museum allows residents and visitors in the Finger Lakes to experience a big-city museum in the middle ofone of the most geologically spectacular regions of the country. PRI is proud to have built and operated this museum for the past 20 years, and we are so excited to celebrate this anniversary with our community.”

With gratitude for two decades of support from our community, visitors, and our sponsor, Wegmans, we are offering a host of special activities and prizes! Thanks to their generous sponsorship, we will be offering free admission on Saturday, September 30th, while we transport our guests back in time to explore Earth's incredible history, one activity at a time! These include the opportunity to interact with and touch fossils, receive collectible stickers, access special membership offers, engage in hands-on interactive activity tables, participate in a raffle, and join us for cupcakes during the afternoon. The Museum of the Earth will be open 10am - 5pm with activities happening all day!

Let's come together to celebrate our past, present, and future at the Museum of the Earth!
