Cayuga Nature Center Celebrates Summer Season and 10th Anniversary of Merger with Paleontological Research Institution

Ithaca, NY – June 12, 2023 – The Cayuga Nature Center (CNC) will celebrate the Summer season and the 10th anniversary of its merger with the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI) on Saturday, July 1st, from 10am to 5pm. The event will be open to the public and all activities are included with admission. Admission to the Cayuga Nature Center is always a Pay-As-You-Wish option. Donate as much or as little as you can, and all donations support the Nature Center animals, exhibits, and programming.

The merger between the Cayuga Nature Center and PRI in 2013 created new opportunities for Earth and environmental science education in the Ithaca area. The new center offers a full spectrum of educational programs and exhibits, including evolution, climate science, geology, and biodiversity, from both the past and present.

To celebrate this milestone, the Nature Center is hosting a celebration that includes many extra educational activities for visitors of all ages to enjoy, including:

  • Nature walks: Explore the Nature Center’s trails and learn about the plants and animals that call this place home.

  • Animal encounters: Meet some of the Nature Center’s animal ambassadors, including our raven, snakes, and opossums!

  • Crafts: Make your own nature-inspired craft to take home.

  • Layers of Life: Learn about the planning of our next exhibit and enjoy a taste of exclusive Cornell created ice cream!

The Nature Center Lodge will be open from 10am-5pm and special activities will run from 10am-2pm.

“We are so excited to celebrate this milestone with our community,” said Katie Bagnall-Newman, Associate Director for Nature Center Programs. “This event is a great opportunity for us to share our passion for Earth and environmental sciences and inspire the next generation.”
